Description

Like many of you, the Rosette Nebula was one of the first targets that I imaged when I started the Astrophotography journey.  That first narrowband image from my suburban back yard really got me hooked on deep sky imaging.

I was excited to image it again this year from a dark sky location, and add in the RGB for the dust that I really love to see.  The filaments and complex interactions with so many energetic stars create an interesting landscape to explore.  I really like seeing the dust cross in front of the filaments as they add a depth and a more 3D appearance.  There is even the dust interacting with Hubble's Variable nebula in the bottom left.

Title: ORGB Toned Down Version

Description: I have not been happy with my original version since I posted it. I feel that I really went way too overboard and the image became too contrasty and "crunchy". I have processed this data set over and over, which is why I probably became sensitized to the high contrast.

This new version is just ORGB, as I found the red was quite strong in the broadband images and adding Ha and Sii just made messed up the natural color palette could easily overpower the faint dust that I was wanting to show. This version is probably still over done, but I do like it better.
